WE ARE FOOTBALL 2027 Regional Cups: How the Cup Ladder Works
Regional cups in WE ARE FOOTBALL 2027 are built in the editor: up to 32 trophies, district-to-national qualification chains, cup points and what each win pays.
Foire aux questions (FAQ)
Does WE ARE FOOTBALL 2027 have regional cups by default?
How many cups can you create in the WE ARE FOOTBALL 2027 editor?
Do cup wins matter for my manager career?
Why do my opponents' club names have letters after them?
Cup football is the part of WE ARE FOOTBALL 2027 that most new saves touch once and then never configure again — which is exactly why the questions around it are so persistent: is there a lower-tier cup, how many trophies can a country run, and what is winning one actually worth? The short answer is that the game ships one national cup per country and hands you the tools to build the pyramid underneath it yourself.
What ships in the box, and what you have to build
In a fresh save a country runs the national cup, and a league cup where the league system defines one. There is no district or regional tier waiting in the standard dataset. The official guide treats “Regional cups” as an editor feature and dates it to this edition — the entry in its new-features list reads “Regional cups – from WAF27 onwards”, and explains that they “can be set up in the editor” and “allow teams to qualify for the next higher-level cup”, which “is possible across several tiers” (EN p. 140).
Two practical consequences. First, structure is a pre-save decision: you assemble the pyramid in the editor and then start the career, rather than unlocking competitions mid-season. Second, if you take over a lower-league club and the cup draw pairs you against a professional side in the first round you enter, that is the single-tier default working as designed: there is no regional buffer round underneath the national tournament.
The cup pyramid, tier by tier
The editor chapter gives the numbers (EN p. 183):
- Cap: “up to 32 cups (one national cup plus 31 cups below that)”. The guide prefaces this with “as things stand”, so read it as the current limit.
- Chaining: cups “can also operate across multiple tiers”, and the example the guide gives is a German one:
district cup win => regional cup => regional cup win => national cup. Winning the small tournament is what puts you in the bigger one. - Catchment: you decide which leagues feed which cup. The guide’s two examples are a regional cup containing “only clubs from the RL North and below”, and one that combines “the RL North and South and the leagues below them”.
To build that catchment the editor uses a professional-level pick rule the guide documents as GetWithLowestLeagueAndLevelAtLeast, which fetches the clubs “that belong to the specified league or below and are currently playing in league tier X or below” — the mechanic that makes “and below” competitions possible at all (EN p. 183). If that vocabulary is new to you, our editor guide for leagues and databases walks the editor’s tabs and export/import flow first.
What a cup run is worth
Trophies in this game are also currency for your own progression: the points a club wins feed your manager level, which runs to level 15 at 25,000 points. The points table (EN p. 71–72) puts cup results in context:
| Achievement | Manager points |
|---|---|
| Championship | 250 |
| National Cup | 125 |
| Promotion | 100 |
| League Cup | 60 |
| International Super Cup | 30 |
| Super Cup | 10 |
Rounds are rewarded as you go, not only at the final: each additional national-cup round is +5 (rising by 5 per round) and each league-cup round +3, with the round score doubled if the opponent is more than 10 percent better. That multiplier is the reason a minnow run out-earns a comfortable win at home. Losing early is punished symmetrically: an early exit from the national cup costs −5 per round and from the league cup −3 per round, but “only if the opponent is not” the weaker side, so genuine upsets among the favourites do not hurt you twice.
The career payoff is also literal — the guide lists manager levels 5, 10 and 15 as standalone trophies in their own trophy family (EN p. 130) — and the money side is real too: cup premiums land in your season figures and are one of the levers the board uses when it grows your budgets, as the finances and wage-budget guide works through.
Where cup results show up on screen
Three places worth knowing. In league tables, clubs carry title markers (documented since WAF2024, EN p. 117): CW cup winners, LC league cup winners, F cup finalists, plus C champions, R relegated and P newcomers, combined when a club does both — C, CW is a league and cup double.
In the club profile, national titles and national cups are listed as their own criteria, so a cup-heavy history changes how a club reads when you take it over or when sponsors look at you (German edition p. 71).
And in the TV revenue overview at the bottom of the sponsor screen, note the limit: “Under ‘Cup’, only the regular cup competition is shown” (EN p. 153). Money from your self-built regional cups does not appear there — you will find it in the accounting journal instead, which is easy to misread as a missing payment.
Finally, timing: “Once the championship has been decided, usually the cup finals take place” (EN p. 45), before the season-closing screens. That puts finals squarely in the weeks where squad freshness matters, which is why the career mode and game modes guide treats the season end as its own planning phase.
What the official sources do not say
- Which countries ship a second tier. The guide documents how to create regional cups but publishes no list of datasets that already contain one. Check the competitions tab in the editor for your start country before you commit to a save.
- Real names for the tiers. Your district and regional competitions are named by you; no official patch renames them. The real-name database patch covers players, clubs and crests, not invented cup structures.
- Whether the 32-cup cap moves. “As things stand” is the guide’s own hedge, and the developers have promised their first update within days of release rather than weeks. We re-check this page once that patch note is public.
